Linda Rosenthal, a lifelong Upper West Side resident and longtime community advocate, is seeking reelection to the 67th Assembly District seat. With over 25 years experience as a grassroots political activist and public servant, and a passionate dedication to her West Side neighborhood constituents, Linda is uniquely qualified to continue the Democratic legacy of progressive reform and independence at the State Assembly in Albany.
Since her election to the State Assembly in February of this year, Linda has hit the ground running, sponsoring legislation on a variety of issues, including election reform, womens rights, housing, and animal rights.
Prior to her election to the Assembly, Linda served for 13 years as the Manhattan District Director and Director of Special Projects for U.S. Congressman Jerry Nadler. She has been instrumental in several of Jerrys initiatives to enhance the quality of life for residents of the Upper West Side and Clinton. These include:
Providing a Livable Community
Linda has been a relentless advocate to help secure the funding, resources and legislation to improve, and in some cases protect, projects such as:
Linda first got involved in tenants rights when she herself faced eviction over 20 years ago. Since then, she has been a staunch advocate in this cause, working with individual and tenant groups to secure funding, protection and legislation to help low and middle income residents.
Recently, Linda helped secure an agreement with the new owners of Manhattan Plaza, a subsidized 1,689 unit apartment complex for artists in Clinton. Through her efforts, generous rental terms were secured for both current and future tenants of the complex.
Securing Key Resources
Both in her capacity as Assemblymember and her work with Congressman Nadler, Linda has helped bring hundreds of millions of dollars to support local educational and cultural institutions, including:
Taking on Government Failures and Inadequacies
After 9/11, Linda fought the EPA to provide better clean-up efforts to improve the air quality for those who live and work in lower Manhattan. She also compelled the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation (LMDC) to free up more federal grant money to aid in the economic recovery of small businesses in the area.
In Albany, Linda has continued the progressive Democratic legacy of her predecessors, particularly in the areas of government reform and accountability. And she will remain passionately committed in her support of issues such as quality-of-life, education, a womans right to choose, protecting the environment and Social Security.
